What is our story? Why do we want to tackle the issue of accessibility to women’s health in low and middle income settings? Why do we want to look at India and Africa?
Reshmi was born in the Indian state of Kerala. She did her PhD in Nuclear Physics from NUS and did her Executive MBA at INSEAD. Her mother was a gynecologist. Susan was born in Edmonton, Alberta and grew up in Canada. Her dad is Egyptian and an engineer. Her mom is Jamaican, and was an obstetrics nurse. Susan did her B.Sc. in Systems Design Engineering from University of Waterloo, and her M.Sc. in International Public Policy at Queen Mary, University of London.
A desire to willingly step out of our comfort zones to invest time, energy and resources to set things right. That’s it. That’s our story.
However, if you are looking for a poignant story – we have none. Knowing that half of the women’s poorest women exist in just 5 countries, knowing that most Healthtech startups that strive to address their problems end up, (usually due to pressure from their funders) launching their products at higher price points in developed economies, knowing that this imbalance will never be addressed unless someone does something about it – we decided to take action. No poignant personal stories. Just a desire to do the right thing. Out of this very strong desire to take action, was born 149 Technologies.
